The Problem

This facility had recently replaced a brake transducer. Following this replacement, an increase in vibration from around 5g to 9g average developed, indicating a bearing failure. Following inspection, bearing fluting was found.

How We Solved It

It was recommended that bearing temperatures be monitored, primarily on the outboard side, and that bearings were being greased according to the OEM specifications. Ultimately, the motor was pulled before the next rig up and repairs were made, resulting in a return to healthy vibration levels before a failure could occur.
