The Problem

These large fans are responsible for providing oxygen to the boiler for primary combustion.

Over time, these fans can see high debris, causing build-up. On this fan, SMARTdiagnostics called out an increase in peak acceleration, potentially caused by debris build up leading to imbalance within the fan. This imbalance indicated a potential bearing fault.

How we solved it

Upon inspection, excessive debris was discovered. During regularly scheduled downtime, the fan was taken offline and the blades were pressure washed to remove build-up. Following this cleaning, peak acceleration returned to a healthy level before a failure could occur.
